The Museums of Western Colorado’s 4^th Annual Heritage Archaeological Award for “distinguished and long-term efforts of an individual to the public understanding and appreciation of Mesa County and Western Slope archaeological heritage” was awarded to Curtis in 2017. 

“Curtis is one of Colorado’s leading archaeologists and has led his field with innovative field work and ground-breaking publications,” said David Bailey, Curator of History and Director of the Western Investigations Team in his introduction at the ceremony.
